Register for Breakthrough Music Competition Now

he first heats in the annual Act-Belong-Commit Breakthrough Music Competition are right around the corner, with talented young musicians urged to register before the competition kicks off.

A hit with the community since 2012, the Breakthrough Music Competition gives young people between the ages of 12 and 24 a taste of the music industry as well as the chance show off their musical abilities.

A pool of $10,000 worth of cash and prizes is available to participants, with three sets of heats scheduled to take place in shopping centres across the City of Rockingham throughout October.

City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said the Breakthrough Music Competition gave young people the opportunity to turn their musical passions into greater success.

The Breakthrough Music Competition has proven to be a huge hit with young people from a diverse range of musical backgrounds, with participants using the competition to fast track their progress in the music industry,” Mayor Sammels said.

“Not only does the competition give participants the chance to slingshot themselves ahead in their careers, it also presents an exciting chance for young musicians to perform in front of larger audiences.

“With the first heats approaching I encourage local young people with a passion for music to enter the competition as soon as possible.”

Live performances for heats will take place at the following venues:

  • Heat 1 – Sunday 6 October – Secret Harbour Square from 11am to 2pm
  • Heat 2 – Sunday 13 October – Stockland Baldivis from 11am to 2pm
  • Heat 3 – Sunday 20 October  – Rockingham Centre from 11am to 2pm

After the heats a grand final event will be held on Sunday 27 October from 11.30am – 2pm at the Rockingham Foreshore. This event will form part of the City’s official Foreshore Celebration event.

The City of Rockingham is proud to present the Breakthrough Music Competition with support from Act-Belong-Commit Mentally Healthy WA, Healthway, Warnbro Centre, Stockland Baldivis, Rockingham Centre, Secret Harbour Square (Charter Hall), and Take Eight Productions.

Andy Burns

Councillor - City of Rockingham

I grew up in Rockingham.

I went to Cooloongup P.S. and Safety Bay S.H.S.

Rockingham is an amazing place to live and I believe we have so much to offer but we're not living up to our potential.

Every one of us should be doing more to promote our amazing city, joining the local council is part of my effort.
